Chinese Knotting: The 8 Flower Knot

step 1:
form 2 loops, inserting the second through the first as in step 1 of the 4 flower
insert a third loop through the previous 2
pin the result together with a bobby pin as in step 1 and 2 of the 6 flower

step 2:
form a loop from the working end and insert it through the centre of the previous 3 loops (1, 2, 3)
repeat (2, 3, 4)
you will now have 4 petals
take the working end and insert through loops 4, 5, 6, over the starting end and through the first petal

step 3:
take the working end back, under the starting end and through loops 6, 5, 4

step 4:
steps 4 through 7 illustrate the completion of the knot as twice more the working end is threaded through the previous 3 loops, down through the next available petal and back

the somewhat tightened and mostly completed 8 flower
